“Well,” said Candi. “Do you want to go to the zoo today and see the wolves?” She was talking to Zaily May and knew she always felt at ease around the wolves. They gave her a sense of family and reminded her of her ancestors.
“Do you think Marley will meet us?” asked Zaily. “No, I asked, but she said she was too busy filling her flasks for the winter.”
So the two set off on the beautiful sunny day, in the middle of fall. The Otters were out playing in the chilly waters of the cow tank, that they called their river. Candi tapped on the window with her single-toed hoof and waved hello. The otters seemed much too busy frolicking in the sun to wave back.
As they passed the chicken coop, Zaily realized the door was open and all the chickens were getting out. She felt the need to step up and lend a helping paw. After she got all the chickens round up and in their cage, she locked it up tight.
Llama Llama smiled slyly as they passed by. He had always had a little crush on Candi and loved watching the optical illusion of her camouflage stripes go by. “Are those stripes helping her keep warm?” Llama thought.
They finally made it to the wild wolf pack in the far corner and set out the picnic they had packed up for the adventure …
and had the most lovely afternoon.
