Desert
Thanks to this great book my son found at the library book store, we had a desert theme today. The project was to make a desert scene with paper and tape. Great for a 3 year old. He found other things to do with the scotch tape, as always, but we succeeded in getting a scene built. (Another idea in the book was to use bubble wrap and paint to paint your lizards.)
Facts we found interesting:
* The camel can drink 70 quarts of water at one time.
Their feet are made to help them from sinking into the sand.
And you can start a fire with their feces, because it is so dry.
* Hibernation in the desert is called "estivation". Many plants spend most of their lives as dormant seeds underground waiting for the rainy season.
Find your own fun facts about the desert and create a sandy, cacti wonderland of your own.
