Spring is about to unfold and we are on our tree hunt! Yesterday we decided to get to business. We found a great place to walk to, with a fair amount of woodlands (for a city).

This tree is our months project.

What tree is this??

The bark is kind of "peely" and "shingled" looking.

The tree book we have seems hard to distinguish which tree this is. So we will have to do some more research. This might be easier when the leaves are on the trees.

(June 3, 2018)

Well, we were in this tree's neighborhood today and decided to pay it a visit. the Leaves were too high to grab one, but defiantly look like Maple to me. I have been trying to find a picture online of a Maple tree with this bark, and these leaves, and am having no luck. I guess I will assume it is a sugar maple, which our tree book says can have scaly bark. We need to start with easier trees to learn I guess.

What happened here?

All the bark is off these trees and they are all falling down.

Excited for the leaves to form on the trees. Identification will be MUCH easier!!

The Beech and Birch seem to be the only two I can figure out for sure, with out he leaves.
